Beaches on Naxos

Naxos beaches

From Agios Georgios to Agiassos

On this page you will find information on the most beautiful and well known beaches on Naxos. Most of them are located on the west coast of the island, starting right at Naxos town (Chora) In contrast to other Cyclades islands beaches, the west coast of beaches of Naxos are very long and relatively wide.

Agios Georgios

Agios Georgios beach is the first beach to be found after Naxos town on the way to the south. To be frank, this sandy beach is actually in Naxos town and you can reach it on foot. It is approximately 2 km long and you can have a view of Paros Island in the horizon. The beach is organized offering umbrellas, sunbeds, water sports, taverns, bars and mini markets. Its shallow waters make it ideal for children and it is very popular during the high season. In the end Naxos town and Agios Georgios are just one village. You cannot really identify where Naxos town ends, and Agios Georgios begins.

Agios Prokopios

One of the most beautiful beaches on Naxos, Agios Prokopios is around one km long and well protected from the north winds. On the south of the beach you can find tavernas and cafés, while the north part is less crowded. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent. At Agios Prokopios you can also rent a car or a motorbike (Scooter).

Agia Anna

Agia Anna beach approximately 6 km from the city of Naxos (Chora), is right after Agios Prokopios beach and only within a short walking distance. Actually, this rather famous beach has 3 small bays, the first on the way from Agios Prokopios beach, the middle one with most restaurants and bars overlooking the sandy beach and the south one on the way to Plaka beach. Also at Agia Anna beach you can rent a car or a motorbike (Scooter).

Plaka

Plaka beach is located between Agia Anna and Orkos. With a length of 4 km it is one of the longest beaches on Naxos, with fine, golden sand and green-blue waters. You should either bring with you or rent an umbrella, available at a few parts of the beach. Directly on the road, mostly at the north and middle part of the beach you will find tavernas and mini markets. We always recommend a rental car or motorbike having an accommodation at Plaka beach. Of course there are also several bus stops on the long road leading down.

Kite surfing at Mikri Vigla beach

Mikri Vigla

A very beautiful beach with fine sand, Mikri Vigla is divided by a small hill in two beaches. The south part is perfectly protected from the wind and therefore ideal if you want to spend the whole day on the beach - and at the tavern “Mikri Vigla”. The north part is beloved by windsurfers and kite surfers.

Kastraki and Alyko

Kastraki beach is directly after Mikri Vigla beach and has exactly the same fine sand and crystal clear waters. The Alyko beach is divided in various large beaches and small bays, with sand and small pebbles. The south part is protected from the wind and there is only one taverna on the north part of the beach. Needless to say, the waters at Alyko beach are crystal clear.

Pyrgaki

Pyrgaki beach is at the south west part of the island, approximately 17 km from Naxos town (Chora). The west part of the beach is almost 1 km long and the east part is a picturesque bay of 200 meters. On the east part you can find tavernas, on the west side a mini market and a hotel with a restaurant. Pyrgaki beach is hardly ever crowded, but it can often be rather windy.

Agiassos

The Agiassos beach is on the south western part of Naxos. Its bay is well protected from the winds. It is a quiet place with cedar trees. The nearest mini market is unfortunately at the Pyrgaki beach, but there is a tavern right at the beach.
